What have we been up to

What are we up to? We have traveled over 1500 miles of our Great Loop adventure which is approximately 1/4 of the trip. It is time to organize the next segment which will be the inland rivers.

It seemed like a race to get south on Lake Michigan. It involved 3 days of wake up at dawn to depart before the winds kicked up. We made it down to Racine, WI where we have been moored for a little over a week. In that time, we cleaned the boat, invited Kevin’s brother and sister in law over from Elkhorn, WI, flew to Albany, NY, picked up our van and said hi to special friends Leigh and Evie at Coeymans Marina, turned around and drove 930 miles back to Racine in two days. It was exhausting.

We have wheels, at least for another 4 or 5 days. In that time, we plan on getting a Costco run in as Bev has been going through withdrawal. Also, Kevin will be getting an oil change and recall done on the van. Then Kevin’s sister, Mary will be visiting for a day followed by us driving over to Elkhorn , WI to go to the Walworth County fair. We will be visiting with Kevin’s brother’s family while at the fair.

After that trip, we leave for St. Charles, moving the van to a marina where we will have the boat pulled and bottom work done. So, while we have been busy, we have used this time to get organized for the next portion of the trip which is the river system down to the Gulf of Mexico.

Our tentative schedule is to be in Waukegan, IL, September 2 and Chicago on September 3. That may shift a day if we are too tired from driving 350 miles both ways to St. Charles.
